This expansion joint contains one or two bellows with a central pipe and an extra bellows to balance pressure thrust. Normally it is used at changes of direction in piping, the elbow is built between the bellows and the balancing bellows. This expansion joint is used in cases where the pressure thrust is too high when connecting the pipe system to delicate equipment like turbines. The main advantage of this expansion joint is it’s capacity of accepting combined axial and lateral movements. The main anchors and the directional anchors are designed to withstand the bellows’ elastic modulus so forces and movements are controlled.
